Our charming red barn, nestled in the bucolic farming community of Nunica, Michigan, was built in the 1920s by Farmer Charlie Gibbs. It was a sturdy hip-roof barn that housed dairy cows on the ground floor and feed on the main floor. The adjacent white silo was used as a silage storage bin. In the 50s, the farm was sold to Harold and Geneva Schmidt who raised Hereford cattle and planted sweet-corn, strawberries, asparagus, grapes and fruit trees on the property. After their deaths, the farm was purchased by their nephew, Thomas “Tom” Schmidt, in 1996. Tom, who retired after 28 years in the US Navy Seabees, renovated and re-painted the wooden barn. He added a new roof and built a white corral around it. An old chicken coop damaged in a storm in 1997 was torn down and replaced with a pole-barn (hangar) for his Aeronca Champ airplane. In addition, he renovated the old farmhouse where he and his wife, Cherry, presently live.

 

The Little Red Barn of Nunica LLC is an authentic vintage barn with original wooden floors and weathered barn-wood walls. Cathedral-height ceilings with heavy timber beams add drama and romance to this rustic piece of architecture! There are two wide doors on its north and south side!  The North barn-door spills to the outdoors on a gentle ramp, allowing easy access and entry to the barn. The South barn-door leads to a 2,500 square-foot deck that allows you to dine and dance under the moon and stars! An inviting loft adds a layer of charm and is the perfect place for a DJ or a photo-studio!

The transformation of The Little Red Barn of Nunica LLC into a magical venue for weddings and receptions, good for 200 guests (including the wedding party), is now offered by the owners, Tom and Cherry Schmidt. Come visit the farm and see the beauty of this country setting! Tom and Cherry will personally attend to you and help make your wedding and reception specially memorable and sweet!
